Course Introduction

This course will equip the trainee with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to perform electrical installation work in domestic premises and related environments.


Objectives of the course

By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Understand the operations of final circuits
  • Demonstrate safety awareness when handling electrical tools and equipment
  • Appreciate the correct use of tools and equipment
  • Determine appropriate types of cables for a particular purpose
  • Outline the distribution network in power systems
  • Apply relevant principles to design and carry out electrical installation works
  • Provide maintenance and service to electrical tools, equipment, cabling, and accessories

Occupational information and job opportunities

Graduates from this program are expected to be able to analyze and test electrical installation works, troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain different types of electrical installations
while observing safety regulations and expected standards. Generally, the graduate will be expected to:
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical, wiring, power circuits/machines, and lighting systems.
  • Interpretation of drawings.
  • Perform general electrical maintenance in domestic installations and industrial installations.
  • Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components in electrical installations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults using appropriate methods of testing and equipment/devices.
  • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
